The Universe Doesn't Go Backwards but Your Mind Can go backwards

“The universe doesn’t go backwards.  Time won’t go backwards.  Light won’t go backwards.  But your mind can go backwards.”  This is a quote from Richard Sandler from his book, Using Your Brain for Change.

Let's do an imaginary game.  Recall an unpleasant experience from your past.  Just take a moment to re-experience what you see, hear and feel and go back to reliving the experience to what your eyes in your brain sees.  Recall what your ear hears and recall what your heart feels in that mirror.

Are you associated or dissociated with the video of your past?

Dissociation is looking at the memory from a point of view as if you are looking at each frame looking down from a theater with all emotion removed from the situation.  It is where your highest self is in the spiritual calmness of you being more than ok as you look in the mirror and watch you going through each frame.

Association is reliving the situation with all the feelings as if it is happening now that causes much fear, anxiety and sadness.

Now go back, clear the screen.  Recall a pleasant and happy experience from your past.

Notice how your body reacts to what it sees, hears and feels in terms of association and dissociation.

When there is a phobia, you can teach your brain to be dissociated away from the stress response of fear.  Depending on the goals, you can teach yourself to be associated with the feelings so that you can be more motivated to protect yourself and your health to achieve the goals you set.

Now go back and think of that pleasant and happy experience.

1.      Make the video super bright, bright colors and intensity the colors.

2.     Change the distance to close to faraway.  Faraway to Close.

3.     Make the picture 2D to 3D with real depth and dimensions.

4.     Change the picture to be crystal clear and detailed.

5.     Make the picture a panoramic that continues all around your head

6.     Make the picture big and tall.

NLP is the science of changing your internal map, your map of reality of what you see, feel, and hear, and how you think about the world around you. The map of reality is your internal map inside your head, you know, hey, simply put, we are referring to the harsh dialog inside your head and the images and how you think about that memory.

Our brains sort out and code our experiences in many ways, and it is what we see, feel, and hear. So then to change that painful moment, then you must then change the way you see either. If it's an unpleasant feeling or a memory, make it small, make it dim, and then move it away from you. And then, if it's a pleasant experience, then make it bright, make it big, and make it so that you can then just feel or let go based on the size and the brightness of that picture. There is an expression, put your past behind you.
