When there is any stressful time, like a pandemic or COVID, our bodies will respond like in a fight or flight situation. This affects our mental health and wellbeing.

When we are under stress, our bodies are an organism and your body budget spends too many resources to keep you alive.

Because of COVID, we stayed inside for a year and a half. You are working from home. You work all day. You forget to walk and eat a lot of junk food. Your life is all work and no play. You don’t know when the day stops and the next starts. You are eating too much. You are craving sweets. You are smoking too much. You are having sleeping problems. You are taking sleeping pills.

Dr. Lisa Feldman Barrett published her book, How Emotions are Made, on March 7th, 2017. She quoted these statics: 40% of Americans above the age of 13 is sleep deprived. So, when you feel like crap, most of the time, it’s no wonder 30% of all medications taken in the USA are for stress management.

The iPad kids turn into iPad adults where they cannot do any contingency planning to manage their life.

 You train your mind to control your emotions. The answers are simple and easy to do and follow. Dr. Lisa Feldman coined the term body budget.  Your brain budgets a certain percentage of your heart rate, breathing, temperature, and hormones keep you in good shape. A friendly body budget consists of building your body's foundation like the house to eat healthy and nutritious food. So, when you eat too much refined sugar and bad fats this may lead to chronic mis-budgeting that leads you to feel depressed and anxious.

Our body budget needs a solid foundation to keep you in good shape. A body budget is like building a house with a strong foundation or balancing your financial budget.

Moving your body and having enough exercise can change your mood. When you enjoy that walk or hike outside in the forest greenery, sunshine, and hearing ducks in the pond, you feel happy and joyful on the inside.

Living in the city has been often very noisy and stressful. Going outside and enjoying the greenery and natural lights of mother nature helps your body to build a strong foundation of control for you.   So when you eat and feed your body healthy and nutritious food, you walk, swim, or ride a bike for an hour a day and get restful sleep at night; this leads to a healthy body budget where you feel balanced and in control. Your body is just a big DNA that is filled with proteins, water, and many biological ingredients to replicate.  Get a massage and stretch your body by doing yoga.  Master your emotions by also moving your body and changing your locations or situations.   During the Vietnam War, 15% of soldiers were addicted to Heroin.  95% stayed off the drug in their first year back home in the United States.  Next time when someone or a situation stresses you out, get up and move your body and change your environment.  Enjoy giving and be in gratitude to mutual friends that you enjoy talking on the phone and spending time with them.
